None of them is lying. They are quoting different things.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"eWOAYnrnznrBcYA1Lx6QEx\" data-dm-ref=\"9\">Your diecast car MOQ comes from four separate minimums, and the highest one wins. That is the whole explanation, and almost nobody gives it.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"dVsGc8LINwUCwX2k35SRf6\" data-dm-ref=\"10\">This page unpacks where the number comes from. It also shows why the same model costs 2.7 times more at 1,000 units than at 20,000. And it marks which parts of a quote are worth negotiating.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"H4aksOIVacnA56SzBDbMBI\" data-dm-ref=\"11\">It also corrects a figure that circulates widely, including on this site until now: a new diecast mould does not cost USD 300 to 1,000. That number is real, but it is not a mould. A colour run below that wastes paint. 3. <strong data-page-node-id=\"erBqJBIppDrwkKFSxg9rDV\" data-dm-ref=\"19\">Printed box.<\/strong> Offset printing has a minimum run and a plate charge. Below it, you move to digital print at a higher unit cost. 4. <strong data-page-node-id=\"I03d3rPZrgt4dyN1RKY2Bz\" data-dm-ref=\"20\">Carton.<\/strong> Custom-printed cartons have their own minimum, usually lower than the rest.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"ojWmOChI51AV8HYcHSgAsl\" data-dm-ref=\"21\">The highest of the four becomes the MOQ you are quoted. So when a diecast car MOQ looks strange, one of these four is doing the work.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"FMJzVHh61oLrpnKvfr7Zbq\" data-dm-ref=\"22\">This is why the same factory quotes 1,000 for a stock colour and 5,000 for a new body. The first is limited by the box. Each one is a real cost the factory would otherwise eat. That is also why &#8220;can you do 200 pieces&#8221; usually gets a price rather than a no. The paint, the metal, the labour and the box are the same. Only the order size changed, and the price moved from USD 3.15 to USD 1.16.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"zRksQptbPSjGRIeuFoHk2s\" data-dm-ref=\"94\">That is a 2.7 times difference created entirely by tooling.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"2x3G39ch0Pg7NqSuL3P8NO\" data-dm-ref=\"95\">Two conclusions follow.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"UgTuENGRiNyEMQ5QosBfj6\" data-dm-ref=\"96\"><strong data-page-node-id=\"QeCPcfCMNIYSwC3KUFxgiJ\" data-dm-ref=\"97\">A high quote on a small order is not necessarily a bad quote.<\/strong> Ask what the mould amortisation is. If it is USD 2.10 a unit at 1,000 pieces, the factory is being straight with you.<\/p><p data-page-node-id=\"CAQzmuessIoizIF96dFEOF\" data-dm-ref=\"98\"><strong data-page-node-id=\"tgXoyQAQDZImu9VlamXrG3\" data-dm-ref=\"99\">A low quote on a small order usually hides something.<\/strong> Either the tooling is already amortised, or it is a stock model with a logo added, or the mould is shared with another buyer. All three are fine. You just need to know which one you are buying.
